Scenes from Regent Street in black and white - 1

~ ~
This post marks my foray into the world of black and white photography. I have done the odd B&W shot before, but this is my first attempt to capture a place/theme entirely in the medium.

I present to you a series of scenes from Regent Street - posh shopping crescent in Central London, connecting Oxford Circus with Piccadilly Circus. I chose Regent Street because it is one of those places in London that everyone who's ever been in London has been to - it is a destination, yet it is common, it belongs to commonplace memory. And I've attempted to pick scenes from this commonplace-ness of the street - to see if I can make you look at it a bit differently. I do hope you'll let me know how I've done.

Black and white photography is evocative and sensual. Done right, a visual in two tones can bring out the mood and subject of the picture far more beautifully than colour. And the reverse is even more true. Black and white can be a tricky medium, and therein lies the reason for my trepidation.

More to come...watch this space. And please don't forget to leave your feedback!

Hi Shilpa,

Ravi from the land of Twitter :-)

Beautiful snapshots! And I agree with the sensual part. If shot right, B&W can be seductively sensuous!

Keep up the good work!

Cheers :-)
